Tuna salad, pasta salad, egg salad, yogurt, ice cream, smoothies, protein shakes. Do not use a straw.
Soups, tea, coffee (not too hot), mashed potatoes, ground beef, eggs
Seeds, nuts, chips, bacon bits, croutons, hard bread crusts, and spice foods.
Hydration is key. It is very important to drink your fluids and avoid any dehydration.
Get plenty of rest. No strenuous activity or exercise for the first 24 hours.
Light aerobic activity or cardio is okay, just don’t push it. A significant rise in blood pressure will contribute to more postoperative pain, and possibly some increased bleeding at the surgical site.
Normal activity and exercise can be resumed.
There should be no pain during the procedure. You will feel touch and pressure by nothing sharp. If you do feel something sharp you should inform the doctor and he will re-enforce the anesthesia. Patients who have IV sedation will not remember the procedure and may fall asleep. Post-op discomfort varies from person to person. You will be given post-op instructions and prescriptions to help keep you comfortable during healing.
We recommend soft, cool foods. Do not eat anything too hard or too sharp. Tuna salad, eggs, pasta salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream and smoothies are just some examples. Do NOT suck through a straw, however.
The surgical area will be too tender to brush for the first week. We will prescribe a medicated mouth rinse to use that will help keep the area clean. you can brush and floss all other areas not affted by the surgery. Patients with tissue grafts will be instructed when to resume brushing by the doctor or assistant at their post-operative appointment.
We recommend taking the rest of the day of surgery off to rest. Resume business and activities as normal the next day.
Strenuous exercise can increase your blood pressure and provoke swelling and bleeding. We recommend that you rest the day of surgery. You can resume workouts the next day.
After surgery you are prescribed a narcotic pain medication. You should NOT drink alcohol while on this medication.
As long as you have not had I.V. sedation you should be able to drive afer your surgery.
You should expect oozing from the surgical site for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Dampen a piece of gauze with water, fold into a small square and bite down with light pressure for 3-5 minutes. This should stop the bleeding. A damp tea bag can be used if out of gauze. Avoid the urge to rinse and spit. Pressure stops bleeding. Do not hesitate to call us with concerns or questions.
